I was born in London in 1971. At 7 years of age I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, which at the time was considered almost untreatable in children, and I faced a further 7 years of treatment. A combination of Religious and Spiritual experiences during this time set me up to begin a search for a belief system at an early age. Having explored Religion and Belief in conventional and non-conventional forms I now consider myself more Spiritual than Religious.

Surviving Leukaemia as a child also brings a distinct angle on your view of life. It has taken many years for me to understand my views enough to pass them on to others. I have made a point throughout my life to experience and encounter Beliefs, Religions and Methods that help to make peoples lives more fulfilled. I believe that we all have a right to encounter life on our terms and that, although aspects out of our control affect us, if we are given the right Methods to deal with them all of life can be an Outstanding and truly enjoyable experience.

I have some things in my life which I could dwell on and be mopy and sad about, we all have, look at some of mine.

I Suffered from Leukaemia   I Lost a Sister to Tragedy
I Lost a Father to Alcoholism  I have had huge debts
I have lost a well paid job  I have lost a beautiful house
I have been in two car crashes

Well there are some real good reasons to be annoyed at life.  Perhaps I should feel all sorry for myself and hide in my room to ignore life! Or I could see life in a different light.
I spent many years of my childhood life in a hospital ward touching the lives of many wonderful caring people children and adults alike. I learnt at an early age that through strong beliefs and positive thoughts even the seemingly impossible can be archived. When I was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of seven my parents refused to let me believe that I was in any kind of danger. However at this time even my Haematologist, a blood specialist that would normally not see patients in person, insisted on seeing me as my blood looked like that of a dead person even to the naked eye. During the following years I was surrounded by fantastic loving people and I was encountering great fame for a small boy. I was on local and national radio and in papers and magazines including three times on the front of the Arsenal football team magazine. I was given a free invitation to the Queens Birthday party and finally when I was critically ill I was offered a trip to the Christian pilgrimage place Lourdes in France. My doctors told my Mother that it would make little or no difference if I travel or stay home I still did not have much chance of survival. I arrived in Lourdes a critically ill child wrapped in a blanket and travelling in a wheelchair but by the time I left, just two weeks later, I was riding donkeys over snow capped mountains.

It was belief that brought me to those snow capped mountains. I grew up on a council estate in a working class family where both of my parents had to work to assure we could pay the rent and keep the household running. However at no time did I feel disservice or injustice at my place in society, instead my parents were very careful to look on the positive side of life and make sure that my sisters and I did the same. Little did they know that this outlook on life was going to be so utterly tested?

Belief that life will always turn out for the better, as long as you allow yourself to see it going that way, was at the centre of all I had been taught as a child. So when the earth shattering news came that I had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a condition that at the time killed 97% of Adults who contracted it, my parents had to find a way of making sure that all their Child saw was the positive outcome of a cure. They took it upon themselves to always be positive around me no matter how they felt inside. Despite sitting at home crying and dwelling on the horrible fate that had befallen them, every time I saw them I was given positive information and ample amounts of hugs and smiles. My parents even took it upon themselves to ensure that other people that I was surrounded by were being positive and I don’t just mean friends and relations but everybody doctors and nurses included.

What I believe is that my parents realised on some level that as it was my body that needed to heal it was my mind that had to remain positive. As long as my mind remained positive and the only goal I was allowed to understand was being cured then my body could heal. So in this case it did not matter to the outcome of my fight with leukaemia if my parents dwelt on negativity and at times doubted my recovery. As long as I remained shielded from negativity I was able to heal.  To add to the positive attitudes I was exposed to my parents gave me tools and experiences to help me visualise my goal. My father told me that everyone’s body completely replaces it’s self each 7 years and predicted that I would be free from leukaemia by the age of 14. He did not shield me from the knowledge that I had a very serious condition and that many people doubted my recovery. What he did do was assure me that a simple rule of life would prove those doubters wrong. My Dad was right exactly seven years later, by which time I had become an outpatient, I was called in to talk to my doctor who explained that baring some medical disclaimers I was cured. There was no sign of cancerous cells in my body I was 14 and ready to continue my life. Whilst this would in my opinion have worked even if it was purely a made up fact I have since seen theories like this in philosophic and medical papers.

Religion is a very important part of life and society and it is here that my Mother played a major role in my life. My Mother was a recently converted Roman Catholic and brought my sisters and I up as regular church goers and we attended Catholic school. Through religion My Mother was able to demonstrate Faith, a most powerful form of Belief. Along with informing me that many people back at church were rooting for me she organised two trips to Lourdes in France, a pilgrimage place famous for healing, the first of which brought that clear turning point at a critical moment in my fight with leukaemia.

It is my belief that Religion, in any form, provides a much needed moral basis in modern culture. However I have yet to find a personal Religion that fully captures me, instead I believe in the basis of Faith it’s self. I understand Faith as the need to be true to my personal beliefs and understandings of the world.

I strongly believe that everybody in life deserves all they want from it no matter how large and ambitious it is. Through the power of belief I beat a condition against frighteningly steep odds. This understanding at such a young age is what led me to my first belief.

“You can cure your body through the power of your mind”

Yes I had a great amount of medical attention which I am most grateful for but without the belief in the final outcome I am certain that I would not be alive today. In my time on that hospital ward I saw many children who faced much better odds at survival than me wither and die and what stays in my mind is the lack of positive belief that surrounded them. I actually saw families come to visit their children all dressed in black and crying. I did not even let that happen when people stood round my comatose sister Diane? Such a profound observation seen time and time again has led me to this clear understanding which I have developed throughout my life.
So if you can heal your body through thought what else can the mind do? I look at this nowadays with a very scientific view and I will attempt to try to explain my belief using perhaps the most famous scientific principle.

                                        2
     E=MC

There are academics who will talk for eternity on flaws in my understanding of this most famous of Einstein’s discoveries but I’m keeping this below basic. This formula tells us how much energy “E” we would get if we utterly destroyed and object “M”. To me this translates into “objects (or Mass) are energy”. So if everything is energy then so are we and disease is merely a mess up in how our energy is being held together or organised. One common explanation for this is disease is just Diss-Ease. I am willing to accept this understanding as it explains how everything in this universe is connected and allows my belief in things spiritual, magical and paranormal.

If belief cured my leukaemia what else is belief able to do? My answer to this question is anything. It is however more than just thinking something in to existence, this needs a particular frame of mind. Whenever you are in a distinctly positive or negative frame of mind what you focus on becomes real, maybe not instantly but inevitably.

Whilst a positive outlook on life is undeniably healthy it is not just positive thinking that I am talking about. Whilst I don’t watch the news on a regular basis as I consider the negative images focuses us on negative things I don’t believe that things just pop into our lap because of what we watched on telly last night. We can however get what we want by focusing on it in the right way.

Most people are aware of the story of Aladdin and his lamp where the Jinni says “your wish is my command”. Not everybody understands that this well known Disney story dates back to legends originally passed on by word of mouth. The original story’s moral was that you can get anything you want out of life and in earlier versions Aladdin gets as many wishes as he likes.

I believe that through meditation and visualisation you can achieve you r goals quicker and make your desires real. It does not matter what your goal or desire it as long as you can make it believable to yourself. If you are concerned about how you will achieve your goal, don’t be, the universe will provide the method you need to provide belief in your goal. If you have a goal in mind you can get to any destination as long as you believe it is there. One illustration of this is Dave Nixon a caver who was convinced that he could find an astonishing cave beyond a series of small tunnels under the peak district. His belief that this was possible led him through years of research and potholing until he was left with the last option. He and his team dug through the mud squeezing through the tiniest cracks in perpetual darkness until in 1999 he finally found himself in Titan a 460ft (140m) deep cave, that’s as high as the London Eye. Nixon knew that one day he would find this cave and Titan was a great reward for him but he had no map and no certainty that he would find it except his belief in its existence. To make your life an outstanding adventure all you have to do I learn to visualise your desires clearly. One easy way to begin this learning is through meditation.

Meditation is easy and natural despite what you may have heard. It is simply relaxing so that you are able to concentrate. There are several forms of Meditation, what we want to concentrate on is called Visualisation (picturing things in your mind). Please don’t get hooked on this word Visualisation it is easy just like any other form of Meditation. People visualise in different ways and whatever way you visualise is right for you. So do you want to try it?
I’ll bet you are Visualising right now. Yes because imagining yourself sitting and trying to meditate is Visualisation!

Whether you see pictures when you imagine something or just words or sounds this is all Visualisation and I did suggest that we could try it. Now I hope I have dispelled any myths or concerns that Meditation is tricky in any way, let’s get you in a comfortable position. I find that sitting with my back straight and my hands apart and palms up works best. I am going to ask you to begin to clear your mind. Don’t try to blank your mind that is tricky, instead you just want to take things away from your concentration that are not necessary. In your comfortable position look at one thing close to you, maybe a candle or an image of something that you desire. Observe this object closely and as you do feel the rest of the world fall away. Continue to concentrate on this object until even if you close your eyes you can visualise it. Take some time to practice this remembering that how you hold the thought of that object in your head is entirely up to you, see the object with an image, a word or in any other way that works for you. When you have tried this a few times you will find yourself feeling more relaxed and strangely more able to concentrate. Once you are relaxed and your mind is clear it is time to start seeing your desires. Keep it simple at first by just holding one basic image or thought in your head then in time you can add more until your Goal feels truly real in that moment.

Do take time to practice your Meditation technique as it is an important part of visualising your beliefs and don’t worry if you do not get it straight away. My partner Rachel said “there is no way I could do all that meditation stuff you do.” But one day when she was suffering from a headache she said “I’m off to my island.” When I later challenged her as to what she meant Rachel said that she has a desert island she imagines when she has a headache and it helps it go away “That’s Meditation my dear!”

Many people, not just clairvoyants and mediums, see otherworldly things. These sightings vary from one individual to another. Some people see many aspects outside what the vast majority accept as the “real world” and others have more specific visions. These sightings may include sprits, ghosts, auras, orbs or other energies and can vary in their value or usefulness.

I personally, and I suppose understandably, see things unexplainable and know others who have this spiritual sight on varying levels too. One question recently asked of me was how should someone deal with these sightings without wondering about their sanity? As this question has come up several times now I felt committing my humble reply to text was worthwhile.

First I would like to share this little experiment with you to demonstrate how much we take in that is not “real world”. Next time you are in a busy high street stop yourself and close your eyes for just a moment. When you open your eyes best chance is the street will be quieter than it was? I think this is because you are now looking deliberately with your “real world” physical eyes and all of those ghosts, auras and energies we respond to naturally are filtered out. So now that I have you wondering about your sanity I’ll go on and answer that question.

We are capable of seeing and experiencing many different stimulations that build up to make our own impression of the world around us, some are explainable and some are unexplainable. I am going to go to one of my mini physics lessons again but please stay with me. If we stick to vision as scientists explain it we see the world in a spectrum of colours (in the interest of simplicity I am leaving what colour is to the science buffs) simply put we can break down colours into those of the rainbow. The rainbow ranges from red to violet or in fact from Infra-red to Ultra-violet but we don’t see Infra-red or Ultra-violet so we are happy to accept a world that ranges from red to violet. However we don’t say that is all there is to be seen just all our eyes see. Similarly if we put a pair of red glasses on do all the yellow, green and blue things stop existing? No we just can’t see them. So with a set of lenses we can filter out the world around us.

I believe that we, through natural ability and cultural training, filter out the world on a day to day basis. If you are seeing things beyond the “real world” you have three choices; accept what you see as part of your world, filter out what you see or polish and improve the lens. It is down to your own sanity to make the choice that is most acceptable to you. Further to this I do believe that your choice does not have to be a permanent one because just as we can change our physical glasses we can change our spiritual ones too. So for your own sanity you could, for instance, put your no ghosts glasses on at work and take them off in the evening. That is does not mean the ghosts are not there during the day just that you are paying them no attention in the same way as you may ignore an annoying work colleague or a beggar in the street.
